About Dustin Tanabe

Dustin Tanabe is a licensed massage therapist at Action Rehab. He trained at the University of Hawaiʻi KCC and provides therapeutic massage at the clinic in Kakaʻako.

Our name reads physical therapy and massage, and it means both. Massage is not a treat tacked onto the end of a session here. It is a service in its own right, with its own license behind it, and when it runs alongside a rehab plan the two do different jobs. The plan changes what your body is able to do. The hands-on work changes how it feels while that is happening.

Why it belongs in a rehab clinic

Tissue that stays guarded does not only hurt. It quietly shrinks what you are willing to attempt, and that puts a ceiling on what your rehab can ask of you. Therapeutic massage is aimed at that gap, so the work you do with your physical therapist has somewhere to go.

You probably already know the feeling. You work on your feet all day, or you paddle on the weekend, or you have been sleeping badly for a month because your neck will not settle. A body that never fully unclenches is not a small thing to live with, and there is nothing weak about wanting help with it.
