About Action Rehab Physical Therapy

The clinic that treats the cause.

A lot of places manage the pain and call it a plan. We do the other thing: find what is causing it, explain it in plain language, then build a plan that ends. Seven of us, in Kakaʻako, near downtown Honolulu.

Our Story

This isn’t our story. It’s yours.

Dr. Cindy Oania, DPT, OCS, PWCE, CPT, Owner and Physical Therapist

Action Rehab Physical Therapy is one clinic on Halekauwila Street, in Kakaʻako, near downtown Honolulu. It is owned and run by Dr. Cindy Oania, a physical therapist trained at Pacific University Oregon, board certified in orthopedics, a Physical Work Capacity Evaluator, and a certified personal trainer. Seven people work here, with more than twenty years of experience behind the practice.

Patients tend to describe the same sequence. A detailed evaluation first, before anyone writes a plan. Then the education: what is happening in your body, why it hurts, what makes it worse. Then progression that is guided individually, one person at a time, instead of a room of people working through the same sheet of exercises. And when your care involves your primary care doctor, your orthopedic doctor and your insurance company, this clinic coordinates between them so you are not the one relaying messages.

You leave the first visit knowing what is wrong and roughly how long it takes. After that it is four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform, Prevent, each with a job and a way to know you have earned the next one. The people who do best here are the ones who fix things: their houses, their teams, their families. This is where they finally fix the thing they’ve been putting off: themselves.

How We Work

Four things our patients keep describing.

Guided one person at a time.

Not a room of people working through the same sheet. Your progression is set one-on-one with a licensed physical therapist, every visit, and it changes as you do.

We look before we treat.

It starts with a detailed, cause-first evaluation. So the plan is built on what is actually driving the pain, not on wherever it happens to hurt that morning.

We make the phone calls.

Your primary care doctor, your orthopedic doctor, your insurance company: we coordinate between them, so you are not the one carrying messages back and forth.

You should understand your own body.

You get the why in plain language: what is happening, what sets it off, what to do about it at home. Understanding is the part you take with you.

The Difference

Not your typical clinic.

A typical clinic

  • Massage, a few exercises, and that is the whole plan
  • Everyone in the room works through the same exercises
  • Nobody explains why it started, so it comes back
  • No endpoint, just book again next week

Action Rehab Physical Therapy

  • One-on-one with a licensed physical therapist, every visit
  • Hands-on work, including massage, as part of a bigger plan
  • A cause-first evaluation before we treat anything
  • A plan with an endpoint, mapped out on day one

Feel the difference in your first visit.

Who We See

Kakaʻako, and the blocks around it.

Our patients come to Halekauwila Street from downtown, Ala Moana, Makiki, Moʻiliʻili and Punchbowl. Parents who carry everyone. People who spend the whole shift on their feet. People heading back to a physical job after an injury. All of them close enough that getting here is not the hard part.
